Pieceful Quilters
In September, 2014 I visited Pieceful Quilters Guild in Calgary as a guest of my friend Nancy. Just being in the presence of so many quilters was a bit overwhelming but I was made to feel welcome. It didn't take me long to realize this was exactly where I wanted to be on the 2nd Saturday of every month.
The meetings are fun and entertaining with a different agenda each month. The highlight is the "show and tell" portion. I'm always a bit amazed when I see what the experienced members of the Guild create. |
Annual Charity Quilts
Each year the Guild adopts a charity to donate quilts to. All members are expected to make a quilt for the chosen charity. I wasn't even voted as a member yet and I was busy stitching my charity quilt. Nothing gets me more motivated than Charity Work. |
2014-2015 Little Warriors
The Charity for 2014-2015 was Little Warriors, a charitable organization with a national focus that educates adults about how to help prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Little Warriors

2015-2016 Alberta Children's Hospital
The Charity for 2015-2016 was the Alberta Children/s Hospital. My donation was done with the pattern Yellow Brick Road by Atkinson Designs. Sally and I also got together and donated a Sixes and Tens quilt. I also sent along two crib size baby panels. |

2016-2017 Little Warriors
The charity chosen by our Guild for 2016-2017 was Little Warriors. The quilt was a joint effort. Sally pieced it and I quilted and bound it.
This kit has been kicking around my sewing room for a couple of years until Sally rescued it in an effort to reduce my stash. Little Warriors |
Flowers in the Garden
2016 - 2017 |
|
The fabric is from Camelot Collection "Monster Mash" designed Heather Rosas. For the back, I used fabric from the Colorfully Creative Collection by Riley Black Designs. The pattern is Flowers in the Garden by Sweet Jane. It has instructions for two sizes - a baby quilt and a lap quilt but because of the nature of the pattern the quilt can be made any size. It is a great pattern because it goes together fas and there are very few seams to nest. It is great for large print fabrics and looks very scrappy. |

Tin Can
Each member picks material for a quilt and their pack gets passed from member to member each month. The members make one block from the material. At the end of the year, the pack is returned to it's owner with all the blocks created by the other members |

Mythical Horses
The panel for this quilt was Mythical Horses by Laurel Burch. To finish the quilt, I mixed in some Fantastic Felines also by Laurel Burch. The shashing is navy blue with yellow cornerstones. |
Laurel Burch - December 31, 1945 - September 13, 2007
Laurel Burch's vivid and vibrantly colored images of people, cats, horses, butterflies, birds, blossoms, and fish are both whimsical and timeless. Beautifully rendered artifacts from a mythical world of her own creation.
The highly personal quality of Laurel's artwork, her messages, her world view, her own inspirational life story, has been an important part of her broad and enduring appeal. |
